Degree Progress and Academic Planning FAQs

DEGREE PROGRESS CARD

1. What is the Degree Progress Card in Degree Works?

  • The Degree Progress Card is a visual summary of how far you’ve progressed toward completing your degree. It shows the percentage of requirements you’ve completed and what remains.

2. How is my progress percentage calculated?

  • Your progress is calculated based on completed requirements versus total degree requirements.
  • This includes:
    • Completed courses
    • Courses in progress (sometimes counted separately)
    • Remaining requirements

3. Why doesn’t my progress card show 100% even though I’m graduating?

  • There could be a few reasons:
    • Final grades have not been posted yet
    • A requirement hasn’t been officially marked as complete
    • You still have pending administrative or graduation requirements

4. What should I do if my progress looks incorrect?

  • Contact your academic advisor if something seems wrong

5. Does the progress card include transfer credits?

  • Yes, if transfer credits have been officially evaluated and applied to your degree, they should be reflected in your progress.

6. Can my progress percentage decrease?

  • Yes. This can happen if:
    • You change your major or program
    • A course is dropped or failed
    • Degree requirements are updated

7. Is the Degree Progress Card the same as my official degree audit?

  •  No. The progress card is a summary visualisation. Your **full degree audit** in Degree Works provides detailed, official information about requirements.

8. What does “requirements remaining” mean?

  • This refers to:
    • Courses you haven’t taken yet
    • Credits still needed
    • Specific requirements (e.g., electives, GPA, residency)

9. Who should I contact for help with Degree Works?

  • Your academic advisor

STUDENT EDUCATION PLAN (AKA: SEP or ACADEMIC PLAN)

1. Where can I find my student education plan (a.k.a. academic plan)?

  • If you are a degree-seeking student, it is in your MyBC under the Academic Planning card.
  • Non-degree-seeking students will have the Academic Planning card that will take them to Degree Works, but it will not contain any information. They should be directed to join QLess and select academic advising for support.

2. My degree audit is blank or missing sections. What should I do?

  • Degree-seeking students should refresh the page.

  • If that doesn’t work, direct students to contact their academic advisor for support
  • Non-degree-seeking students will not have a degree audit

3. My completed classes aren’t shown on my audit. Why?

There are a few possible reasons:

  • The student did not refresh their degree audit
  • The course may still be processing (especially recent grades or transfers)
  • If the class should count and still isn’t showing after a few days, your advisor can review and request a correction if needed.

4. My SEP doesn’t match my degree audit. Which one is correct?

  • Your degree audit is the most up-to-date reflection of your official academic record. Your SEP is a planning tool and may not always reflect recent changes. It’s best to review both with your advisor to make sure everything lines up.

5. I changed my major, but my audit still shows the old one.

  • Major changes can take a little time to update in the system. If it’s been more than a few business days, I recommend contacting your advising office to confirm the change was processed correctly.

6. What does “Still Needed” mean on my audit?

  • “Still Needed” shows the requirements you haven’t completed yet. This can include courses, credits, or GPA requirements you still need to meet before graduating.

8. Can I register for classes using my SEP?

  • Answer: Your SEP is a planning guide. Registration is done in MyBC using the registration card.

9. My transfer credits aren’t showing correctly. What should I do?

  • Transfer credits may take time to evaluate. If they’ve already been evaluated but aren’t displaying correctly, your advisor can review and apply them properly.

10. I’m getting an error when I click on the links of the Academic Planning card. How do I fix it?

  • Try these quick steps:
    • Clear your browser cache
    • Use a different browser (Chrome or Firefox works best)
    • Disable pop-up blockers
  • If the issue continues, contact your academic advisor for support.

11. My GPA in Degree Works looks wrong. Why?

  • Degree Works may show a different GPA depending on what it’s calculating (like major GPA vs. overall GPA). Your official GPA is always the one on your transcript.

12. Can Degree Works tell me if I’m ready to graduate?

  • It gives a good estimate by showing completed and remaining requirements, but it’s not an official graduation check. Your advisor will confirm your eligibility to graduate.

13. My planned courses disappeared from my SEP. What happened?

  • This can happen if changes were made or the plan wasn’t saved properly. Your advisor rebuilds your SEP if needed.

14. Who should I contact if something looks wrong in my audit or SEP?

  • Your academic advisor is the best first point of contact.
