Q. Do you accept credit for prior learning (PLA)?
A.
You can get a jump-start on obtaining your degree through Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) at Broward College. CPL options allow students the opportunity to earn college credits for knowledge and skills obtained while in high school, at work and other life experiences, or in the military.

For more information about CPL options, visit www.broward.edu/admissions/credit-for-prior-learning.

Q. Do you award credit for military experience/training?
A.
You may be eligible for college credit based on your military educational experiences. Broward College may award college credit for military courses, training, and experiences through various evaluation methods. The three types of evaluation methods are compromised of the following three categories.

  • Type I is the evaluation of military courses as listed in ACE’s Military Guide for the following Army, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marines. Submit the Request for Evaluation of Military Courses as the forms page (under Advising), here: https://www.broward.edu/studentforms/. Air Force students must submit an official transcript from AU-CCAF, here: https://www.airuniversity.af.edu/Barnes/CCAF/
  • Type II is the evaluation of other military training and experiences through Prior Learning Assessment (Assessment fee applies and is non-refundable). Students interested in this option should send a copy of the Joint Service Transcript (JST), a copy of their current resume, and course name and ID they would like to challenge to CPL@broward.edu.  Program not available during Summer Term.
  • Type III is the evaluation of Credit-by-Exam, a variety of different tests are available through testing (fees may apply). Students interested in testing, please visit  Testing and Assessment, here: https://www.broward.edu/admissions/testing/. Students who wish to receive transfer credit for completing an exam, please submit their official test scores and transcript (except DLPT) to the College Registrar Office, here: https://www.broward.edu/registrar/index.html

A.
If you wish to become a BC student and receive CLEP credit, you must apply to Broward College and pay the non-refundable application fee. Former BC dual enrollment students must submit a Re-Entry application but do not pay the application fee. Broward College’s CLEP code number is 4469.

CLEP tests are administered throughout the year at any of the three campus testing centers at specific testing dates and times. CLEP credit cannot duplicate regular college course credit already earned, Dual Enrollment credit, or other credits earned through examination. Remote Testing Options may also be available. Visit the CLEP Exam with Remote Proctoring web page, https://clep.collegeboard.org/register-for-an-exam/registering-remote-proctoring, for additional

Note:

  • The credit for the course that the student has taken the CLEP exam will be reflected on the student’s degree audit at the end of the semester when grades post.
  • It is suggested that if the student is trying to CLEP out of a class for graduation that they take the CLEP a term or more in advance of their expected graduation date just in case they fail the test and are required to take the course.

Visit www.broward.edu/admissions/testing/clep for more information. We strongly encourage students to meet with an academic advisor to ensure course credits will fulfill the degree requirement.

New Transfer Student Incoming Transcript Evaluation
New transfer students are required to schedule an appointment with an advisor upon being admitted in order to receive an unofficial evaluation of transfer credits. Unofficial transcripts may be used for the unofficial evaluation with their advisors. Students need to be registered in the current term for the Official Evaluation to take place. Students may contact their academic advisor to alert them that the transcript has not been evaluated. The advisor will communicate with the Transfer Evaluation staff to request the evaluation if it has not been done yet.

Students must be registered for the current term for the Official Transcript Evaluation to begin. It can then take up to four weeks to evaluate.

Students can also visit the Registrar page to find a list of courses in TES (Transfer Equivalency Service) to assist them to understand how courses that are transferable from another institution.

For more information, refer to the Transfer Credit Evaluation and TES ribbon at www.broward.edu/registrar.
