Q. What is Rapid Credentials program?
A. 
The Rapid Credentialing program is part of a state-wide initiative to help individuals quickly train for a career. Program lengths range from one semester to two-and-a-half semesters. Some coursework will be online and some in person, depending on the program. Eligible students must meet standards of satisfactory academic progress, and provide the College information regarding their job placement after completion of their program. The Rapid Credentialing program is funded by the Open Door Scholarship.What programs and certifications do you offer?

Q. What are the general education requirements?

Broward College’s General Education requirements are listed in the college catalog, available online at https://catalog.broward.edu/. Academic Affairs > General Education > scroll down and select the degree type.

Q. What is the difference between a degree and a certificate? Who to talk to about a specific major or degree program?

  • A degree typically includes general education coursework within a 2-year program.
  • A certificate usually includes specific and limited courses in a professional or technical field, and are generally faster to complete than a degree.

Q. What are ROTC Programs?
A.  
The ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) is a 4-year program. Upon successful completion of the program and graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree, a student may be commissioned as an officer in the United States Armed Forces.

Broward College offers courses that satisfy the first two years of the four-year Army ROTC program or the Air Force ROTC program.

ARMY ROTC

  • Army ROTC courses are held at Nova Southeastern University, Davie Campus.
    • Courses for Army ROTC Include
      • Basic Leadership
      • Leadership & Teamwork
      • Foundations of Officership Individual Leadership Studies
    • Classes are offered in the Fall and Spring semesters, with attendance of an Army ROTC class typically occurring once a week. A “Leadership Lab” and physical training may be required.
      • To find out the schedule for the upcoming semester, eligibility requirements and other information about Army ROTC, e-mail ArmyROTC@broward.edu.

AIR FORCE ROTC

  • The Air Force ROTC program is offered in conjunction with the University of Miami. Classes are taught at the University of Miami campus in Coral Gables.
  • Classes are offered in the fall and winter semesters, with attendance of an Air Force ROTC class typically occurring once a week.
  • To find out the schedule for the upcoming semester, eligibility requirements, and other information about Air Force ROTC, students can call 1-305-284-2870 or visit the UM’s ROTC program website (http://www.as.miami.edu/airforcerotc/).

NOTE: Both the ARMY ROTC and AIR FORCE ROTC programs are not held at the Broward College campuses, but Broward College students can still join.

AEROSPACE STUDIES – AIR FORCE (AFROTC)

  • Florida Atlantic University, in cooperation with the Department of Aerospace Studies, Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) at the University of Miami, provides academic instruction and training leading to active duty commissioned service in the United States Air Force.

Q. Does College offer free English classes?
A. 
Project RENEW (Refugees Entering New Enterprises and Workforce) is a comprehensive program that provides FREE English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for eligible refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking living in Broward County. Project RENEW serves students from all over the world.

Q. What is FAU Link Program?
A. 
The Link Program is an opportunity for students to continue their college education and receive their Bachelor’s degree from FAU upon completion of their Associate of Arts (AA) or articulated Associate of Science (AS) degree. Q. Does College offer the EPI or teaching certificate program?
A. 
The Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) is a certification program for professionals who have a Bachelor’s degree or beyond in any field other than education, and would like to obtain a Professional Certificate to teach in Florida. Completion of the 21-credit EPI program allows an individual to receive a 5-year renewable Professional Certificate in Teaching.Program Prerequisites

  • You must have already completed a Bachelor’s degree in any area other than education to apply to EPI.
  • Apply to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) to obtain your Statement of Eligibility (SOE). You may submit the request for your SOE online. On the application, you must identify which subject area(s) you would like to teach.
  • Send official transcript(s) to the FLDOE to review. Based solely on the transcript(s), the FLDOE will determine if you are eligible to teach the specified subject area(s).
  • Submit a copy of your Temporary Educator’s or Professional Educator’s Certificate to the Teacher Education Pathway advisor.
    • If your last name starts with A-M, please email Ms. Malene Robinson at mrobins4@broward.edu.
    • If your last name starts with N-Z, please email Mr. Alejandro Matias at amatias@broward.edu.

GPA requirement: 2.5 GPA from completed Bachelor’s degree.


Q. Does Broward College require Nursing and Health Science candidates to get the COVID-19 Vaccine?
A. 
The physical, mental, health, and background requirements for the Associate of Science in Nursing program are available for review in the Nursing Student Handbook, which is found on the Broward College website (https://www.broward.edu/academics/health-sciences/nursing/getting-started.html).
