Q. Petition for Admission into BC after Academic Suspension or Dismissal

  • A petition is required for academically suspended Broward College students seeking permission for early readmission to the College. Per policy, it’s also required to petition if it’s 2+ suspension or if GPA is below 1.0 (regardless of time sat out).
  • A petition is NOT required for students who have been academically dismissed by another institution. However, students are required to meet with an academic advisor to discuss success strategies in order to release the AH hold.
  • A petition is NOT required for students who have been academically suspended by another institution. They may begin the admission process and register for classes without submitting a petition.

To appeal an Academic Suspension, a student must complete the Academic Standards Petition with their advisor. The form is available from here (Advising tab). The student must have a documented extenuating circumstance to petition and once the petition has been submitted it will be reviewed by the Academic Standards Committee. All decisions are final once a determination has been made.

The process to file an appeal to return early from an Academic Suspension is available at www.broward.edu/legal/policies-and-procedures.
